Subject: travel in Australia
Dear Dennis,
How’s your summer vacation? My family and I arrived in Australia two days ago, and now we are travelling around the country. Yesterday a funny thing happened. On the way to the Blue Mountain, we came across a big kangaroo (袋鼠) sitting in the middle of the road. That was really funny, wasn’t it? We stopped the car and waited for it to leave, but suddenly it jumped over our car! We laughed and laughed!
When we got to the mountains, it was almost dark. How quiet it was in the mountains! At night we stayed in a tent in the Blue Mountain. There were some strange noises outside our tent. On the next morning, we found some koalas in the tree outside! They climbed up the tree very slowly. They were cute! All my family loved them very much. My sister Elle really wanted to take a koala home with us!
Now we are going to Ayers Rock. We are all excited about it. I’ll write to you again when I get there. I’m looking forward to your reply. Have a good day!
Love,
Hanna

One of my least favorite chores is cleaning my bedroom, but I have to do it. If my bedroom is untidy, I find it hard to relax and impossible to do any work! My mom always says “A tidy home means a tidy mind”, and I think this is true. If everything is a mess, you just can’t think clearly.
Studies show that people are usually more successful if they work, study, or live in a clean and tidy environment. A study showed that a high percentage (百分率) of children with bad behavior come from messy houses. Children who grow up in dirty houses tend to be unhealthy and they fall sick more often too. This is why people with tidier homes are often healthier and more successful. My mom is a good example of this. She makes sure our home is always very clean and comfortable, so my sister and I hardly ever fall sick. Everyone loves her and she is very successful at her job in a bank.
I am not a naturally (天生的) tidy person. I sometimes throw my clothes on the floor because I am too tired to put them away, and I often leave rubbish on my desk. It is not easy to keep things clean all the time, but I am trying to develop the habit of tidying up every day. Maybe one day I will be as tidy and successful as my mom!

These days, living and dealing with kids can be difficult, but living and dealing with parents can be more difficult.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other persons know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve any problems.
Communication begins with the concerns (关心) of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and take no notice to anyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (传递) of information, correspondence (通信), ways of communication; a letter or a message”. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, and ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting and walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example: one night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t think she could just ask to go home. That would be rude (粗鲁的). After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad as before and let it go. Communication is the key here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble. Communication isn’t a one-way matter: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, you should tell the other person how you feel and listen carefully at the same time.

Do you have many friends? Why not find a new friend in 2025 — yourself! You may want to get love and care from a good friendship. Well, you shouldn’t have to go far to find them. Just love yourself and be a friend of yourself.
Loving yourself, also called self-love, means being as kind to yourself as you are to others. Give yourself the love and care just as you give to your friends and family. Becky Goddard-Hill, the writer of Create Your Own Confidence, says it means speaking to yourself with kindness. It also means taking really good care of your body and mind.
Studies show that self-love is good for your schoolwork, health and friendships. Self-love makes you believe in yourself. It makes you feel that you deserve (值得) good things, such as kind friends and fun experiences. It doesn’t mean you’ll be happy all the time, but when you have problems, you won’t be upset by yourself.
Start by being kind, but not being angry. When you make a mistake, don’t get angry with yourself. Tell yourself that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Then find out what you could do differently next time. Remember that no one is perfect. Becky suggests writing down your strengths (优点) as they can help you remember how excellent you are. “Looking at the list often will help bring out the best in you,” says Becky.

I am forty now. I left school 22 years ago. Here’s my list of four things I hope to share with you at school.
Don’t compare yourself with others.
I always wanted to be the best. One way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. 17 Now I compare me with myself. I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.
18 .
When I was young, I failed to start things I expected to do because I thought they would take too long to finish. For example, I always wanted to write a book. But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost my enthusiasm(热情). It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year is nothing. I feel upset with myself for not trying.
19
As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. But at school you are encouraged to do things right. 20 You are losing chances to challenge(挑战) yourself. I always tell myself; I had to fall down from the bike many times before I learned to ride it.
It’s not a big deal even if you lose.
I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it’s nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. But we can’t be winners all the time. Learning to lose is one of the life’s most important lessons to try your best, then you will never be angry with yourself.
A.Start the things you want to do right now.
B.When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible.
C.You can always learn something when trying.
D.Then you stop trying new things in case(以防) you get them wrong.
E.How much time do you worry about your future?
