Passage 1(Unit 5 Going on an exchange trip

文章内容:谈论交流访学中文化冲击

The term “culture shock” is used to describe the anxiety(焦虑)produced when a person moves to a new environment. When you visit a new place, you are forced to meet your everyday needs, like food and language in a totally new and different way. 1      . After all, it is you who must take steps to feel better. There are a few suggestions.

2         . You may feel annoyed that you are experiencing a culture shock after having prepared so long and so hard for your trip. No matter how much information you read and how well you speak English, you can’t always do everything perfectly.

An open mind helps. Try not to form an opinion about the new culture soon. You might be quick to judge the food, manners and the ways to communicate and as a result would want to do things the way you are used to. Do not think of the US culture as better or worse, just different—you will be more willing to try new things. 3           .

Participate(参与). Just watching life go by you is not going to help you much. You will have to try out a few things for yourself. 4          . People around you will usually be ready to help if something goes wrong. If you are unsure of what to do in a new environment, follow others.

Be Humorous. 5          . Finally? believe that you can live with the differences and confusions(困惑)and still learn and enjoy yourself.

A. Don’t worry about making a mistake

B. Getting over culture shock depends upon you

C. Do not expect to do things perfectly the first time

D. Our cultures help us understand who we are and what we believe

E. Try to accept the differences you are finding between your home and host cultures

Zhao was one of the smaller kingdoms. It tried to control an area in the northeast. But it was not alone in the north. Surrounded by enemies, the ruler of Zhao asked for advice. He did not wish to join the war and turn more farmers into soldiers.    2

A clam (蛤蜊) and a snipe (沙锥) fought on a beach. The bird wanted to eat the clam, but the clam didn’t want to be eaten.    3   . The bird said the clam couldn’t survive (存活) without water, and the clam retorted (反驳) the same.    4   , and walked home happily.

Passage 3(Unit 7 The secret of memory)

Memory is our ability to learn something and save it. Our memories are important to our ability to understand the world.     1     There is short-term memory and long-term memory. Your short-term memory saves information for a few seconds or a few minutes.     2     Long-term memory involves the information you try hard to keep, such as knowledge and happy time with your friends.

Scientists have also found that people memorize things in different ways. Some memorize better with the help of pictures.     3     If you make the picture big, strange or silly, you will remember it better. Others can memorize better by sounds. The first important thing is time.     2     However, students often have busy lives with homework, exams, and after-school activities. So it’s important for them to decide if they have enough time without neglecting (忽视) the pet.

3     Pets need food, toys, and medicine when they get sick. These costs can add up, and students should understand the financial (财务的) responsibility before getting a pet.

4     Pets need lots of care and a safe place to live. Students should get their family’s help in caring for a pet, because this support (支持) helps the pet stay healthy and happy.

考题猜想

Passage 1(考题猜想)

The human brain weighs about 1.4 kilograms, but it can hold much more in formation than most computers. However, there is another difference between humans and computers. Computers don’t forget information they are given, but humans often do. No one remembers every thing, and luckily we don’t usually have to.    1    Here are some suggestions.

Try to use new information immediately. For example, if you meet someone who says “Hi! I’m Carlos.”, don’t just say “Hello”. Repeat the person’s name. Say “Hello, Carlos.”

Break a big number into smaller parts. For example, it’s hard to memorize 109244153. But if you break it into three parts—109/244/153—it becomes easier.

2    This will help you keep it in mind longer, especially for memorizing formulas (公式) or facts.

Always review information.    3    For example, before you go to sleep, it’s a good idea to review the new things you learned that day.

4    It is always easier to remember things through discussions. You can have a discussion about what’s right and what’s wrong, and it will lead to the right answer.

“Never tell yourself that you have a bad memory. You can always do something to help improve your memory. And everyone’s memory gets better if they use it often enough.

5    If you follow them, you are certain to improve your memory.

A. If you bring what you’ve learned back to your mind, they become easier to remember.

B. All of the suggestions are helpful.

C. Discuss with a friend.

D. Write out what you need to remember over and over again.

E. But everyone can improve their memory if they want to.

Passage 2(考题猜想)

Choose a suitable (合适的) dictionary.     2     You can choose a dictionary which is suitable for your English level, needs and interests. For a middle school student in Grade 9, you can choose OXFORD INTERMEDIATE LEARNER’S ENGLISH-CHINESE DICTIONARY.

Try to guess the meaning of a new word before you use a dictionary. You may have had such an experience when you are reading a passage. There’re some new words in it and you have difficulty in understanding the full passage. What will you do in this situation?     3

Learn culture from a dictionary. You don’t just learn a new word’s pronunciation, meaning, part of speech and other usages.     4

A dictionary is a good friend for learning English. It’s a waste for you not to use a dictionary in your study. But don’t think the more you use a dictionary, the better result you can get.     5

If you can do as I have told you, I think you will improve your English soon.

A. You can learn some cultural knowledge from a dictionary as well.

B. You should use your dictionary in the right way.

C. Here are some ideas on how to use a dictionary efficiently.

D. Choosing a good dictionary is very important for an English learner.

E. I think you should guess the meaning before you use your dictionary.

Passage 3(考题猜想)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) (人工智能) has become an important part of our lives. How do you use it wisely?   1   Here are some steps and tips for you.

First, know your purpose. Whether you want to use AI for study, work, or fun, being clear about your goal is the key.   2   If you’re a student, you might choose AI-assisted learning tools to improve your study.

Next, choose the right AI tools. There are many AI products on the market.   3   This will help to find the proper AI tools. For example, if you need help with writing, an AI-writing assistant could be a good choice.

When using AI, don’t depend on it completely. Although AI can provide useful information, you should still think twice.   4   Check out the information AI gives you, especially in important situations like academic research or work projects.

Another important thing is to protect your privacy. AI often collects a lot of user information.   5   Read the privacy policies of AI tools carefully and don’t provide unnecessary personal information.

Finally, keep learning about AI. As technology develops rapidly, new AI uses keep appearing. By staying updated, you can make the most of AI and use it in more creative ways.

A. Try to avoid being misled by incorrect information.

B. Different AI tools are designed for different purposes.

C. Do some research to find the ones that suit your needs.

D. Think about your purpose, tools, safety and more before you choose.

E. AI can do a lot of things and it may replace human completely someday.

F. Make sure that you understand how your information is used and protected.

Passage 4(考题猜想)

Art can show humans’ creative mind. But these years, you may read news about (AI人工智能) creating its own art     26     But this worry seems to be unnecessary, at least for now. AI is bringing artists more possibilities, not taking the place of artists.     27

These days, a piece of music created by AI became hot online. AI turns the novel corona virus (新冠病毒) into a piece of two-hour long music on its protein structure (蛋白质结构氨基酸).     28     Listeners found this music made them see the virus from a new point of view.

29     AI truly helps artists create things that they ever thought impossible before.

30     For example, AI now can help to color in black-and-white lines in making cartoons so that it could help artists save much time.

We hope that AI can become a useful helper to make a difference to the art world if it’s welcomed and trusted.

A. The AI then turned these notes into music.

B. Because many artists today are turning AI into a useful helper.

C. Not only create art works, AI can also do simple jobs for artists.

D. Some people worry that AI might someday take the place of artists.

E. This surprising relationship between science and art could never be reached without AI.

F. People should think about if humans and AI can work together to create art works in the future.
