When I was six years old, my mom told me that I could find anyone’s number in the phone book. I used to look through the phone book for hours trying to find Michael Jordan’s phone number. When I couldn’t find it, I just dialed seven numbers. When someone answered, I’d ask, “Is that Michael Jordan?” Obviously, I always had the wrong number.

A year later, I started playing basketball at my local recreation center. It was very big. I never thought in my wildest dreams that a basketball court could be inside a building. The recreation center had a special smell in it, sort of like hot rubber. I guessed it was from the shoes hitting the floor so fast and hard. The atmosphere on the court was carefree. Our biggest excitement of the day was when we actually made a shot. We celebrated wins over ice cream at a fast food restaurant.

I got good at it, and confidence grew. I played it all the time until the sixth grade. As soon as junior high school came, I stopped playing basketball and focused on school. When senior high school started, I tried out for the school team and made it. We worked hard. Every week we did 300 push-ups and 300 sit-ups on our own. Our coach encouraged the sit-ups to keep stomach power, because it gave us so much control when we were playing basketball. If we didn’t want to do the sit-ups and push-ups, we could practise dribbling (运球) and shooting more. It’s just us, the ball, the court and the net. But don’t take my word for it. See for yourself. After all, I’m just one kid playing the game.

A.it is the basic preparation to play basketball

B.it is more useful than dribbling and shooting

The number of days it takes to form a new habit depends on the habit, on you, and or what methods you’re using to build and keep that habit. It may be from 21 days to 8 months or more.

Why is the range so wide? What can you do to build a habit faster?

A popular answer, “21 days, is the time within which people can build a new habit. Many people have applied the “21-day” time to all habits. However, not all behaviours are the same and some may need over three weeks.

How long it takes to establish a habit may depend on what the tip and the purpose is. Forming a habit may take between 18 and 254 days. Researchers found the average amount of time needed for a behaviour to become a habit is 66 days. They mentioned that different actions required a different level of effort too, For example, those who were asked to develop a habit of drinking a glass of water at breakfast were probably more successful than people who were asked to do 50 sit-ups each day.

How can you form a habit in a fast way?

Firstly, believing-in-yourself could be the key to developing and keeping habits. If you make up your mind to give up smoking, lose weight or drink less, believe in yourself! And you will make it.

Secondly, the way a person makes a goal more attractive can also be important. If the process of building your habit doesn’t have any reward, you are unlikely to stick to your goals.

Then, scientists also advised asking the process as easy as possible. For example, if the goal is to go to the gym three times a week, a person should pick a gym near his home.

26.How does the writer introduce the topic?

A.By telling a story.                             B.By giving some facts.

C.By asking questions.                          D.By using an old saying.

27.What does the underlined word “establish” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

A.stop.             B.form.                  C.change.                D.continue.

28.How long do people need to form a habit on average?

A.21 days.        B.254 days.             C.8 months.             D.About 2 months.

29.Who can probably form a habit fast according to the passage?

A.Tom who makes his decision to do 100 pull-ups each time.

B.Ken who can get a reward if he keeps practising swimming.

C.Suzy who has to take a bus to a body-training studio to keep fit.

D.Cathy who doesn’t believe she can lose weight by doing exercise.

30.In which section of a magazine can we probably read this article?

A.NATURE         B.CULTURE             C.LIFESTYLE           D.LANGUAGE
