四、阅读理解 (本大题共17小题,每小题2分,共34分)
A
A tree has roots (根). People have roots too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It’s the same thing with words. Dig deeply into a big, unfamiliar word and you will understand where it came from.
As readers, especially those reading in a second language, we need to deal with the text as if we were detectives (侦探) looking for information to unlock the unknown. Like any good detective arriving on the crime scene, the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to judge the situation, to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to understand what it means.
As you know, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will have the word building power. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these, put them in your memory, and you will become a master word detective.
Let’s look at one common root word used in English. “Alter” from the Latin word means “other”. When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with (与……有关) “other”. Examine the word “alternate”. Can you find the Latin root in it?
| ·If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. You are alternating paying.
·If you go to the movies on alternate Saturdays, you go on one Saturday, but not the other Saturday. ·If you have no alternative, you have no other choice. |
Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your “rooting for words” skills. Like any new skill, practice and hard work are always paid back.
36.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The situation. B.The crime scene.
C.A new and difficult word. D.Everything that is known.
37.If Jim and Lily go to the movies, which one below is “alternating paying”?
A.They each pay half. B.Jim pays every time.
C.They take turns paying. D.Their parents pay for them.
38.How does the author (作者) explain his ideas about root words?
A.By giving a fact. B.By having a discussion.
C.By telling a story. D.By taking an example.
39.“Sen” from the Latin word means “old”. Which word uses this Latin root?
A.My brother is my senior by two years.
B.He was ill so he was absent from school.
C.A criminal was sentenced to death by law.
D.60 students were present at the sports meeting.
40.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=paragraph1 ②=paragraph 2,...)
B
I’ve been interested in languages for as long as I can remember. My dad was a language genius (天才). My family traveled all over the world when I was a child, and my dad would talk to everyone we met easily. His abilities greatly impressed (使敬佩) me. I hoped that I would someday be able to speak as many languages as he could.
I wasn’t a natural language learner. When I was 11 years old, I made little progress in French at school and almost gave it up. After I entered college, I read many German writers in translation. I loved them so much that I wanted to read them in their mother language. This drove me to pick up German. After I mastered German, I found myself in love with languages. Since then, I have never stopped learning new languages. By my late twenties, I was able to speak French, Latin and Greek.
I’m often asked what my secret is. The answer is endless hours of reading and studying. Before I got married, I would spend 16 hours every day studying languages. I used to like walking fast outdoors while listening to a recording of language and repeating it out loud. Now, I can read about 40 languages and speak most of them well. Asian languages are more difficult to master. It took me almost ten years to get my Korean skills close to native level. I live in Singapore now. At home, I speak French with my sons. If my Korean wife is there, we’ll use English. When we don’t want the kids to understand our conversations, we use Korean.
I’ve studied Esperanto (世界语). I think the world will be a less interesting place if there is only one language. It is like visiting a garden where there is only one type of plant!

The Feynman Technique (费曼学习法) was developed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. It’s a study method that helps students learn by teaching others. Have you ever tried this kind of method when studying?
The Feynman Technique has been one of the most effective (有效的) study methods for many years. For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just memorizing information. What’s more, unlike traditional study methods like rereading textbooks or reviewing notes, it pushes students to be more actively involved in the learning process.
★ To begin with, choose a topic you want to learn, including sub-topics (子主题). If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them.
Secondly, it is the heart of the Feynman Technique that you can explain the topic simply enough to be understood by a sixth-grade student. This requires you to help the child understand by using the simplest and clearest language possible. This step helps divide indigestible topics into their most basic parts.
Thirdly, review your explanation and try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader, such as your best friend.
You can improve your explanation by using the information collected from the third step. Finally, repeat the steps. The Feynman Technique works best with repetition, and that is why going through all the steps just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic. Once you’re confident you’ve learned the topic, it’s time to give yourself a prize. Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
45.The question sentence in paragraph 1 aims to ________.
A.to tell a new story B.to report the result
C.to lead in the topic D.to support the idea
…………
参考答案
1. A
【解析】句意:我们的老师总是要求我们每天早上大声朗读课文。
考查副词辨析。aloud大声地;finally最终;probably可能;really真正地。根据“asks us to read the text ...every morning”可知,此处应指的是“大声地读课文”,故选A。
2. C
【解析】句意:-请你把这个故事翻译成法语好吗?-没问题。translate with…和…一起翻译;to translate…with是动词不定式形式;translate…into把…翻译成…;D也是动词不定式形式。Could you please…?请你…好吗?是一个表示请求的句型,后面跟动词原形,故排除B和D。根据句意可知,这里是翻译成法语,故选C。
